“In the beginning of the year, when I was freaking out about how to plan my training, my cool coworker (much appreciated, Deepa!) friend stepped in and created a spreadsheet for me that became an excellent tool to plan my training and keep my sanity in check.
Excerpts from two posts from last year where I mentioned Deepa. She was not just a coworker but huge part of my support system (I need a lot of support) that helped me get thru Fire & Ice last year.
Deepa and I are coworkers no mo. OK, we are friends. But it is so easy to maintain a friendship with your coworker without putting any effort. I’m looking at having to travel to the village* to hang out with her again. I guess you have to earn the good things in life.
* Village – Because I live in downtown Washington DC, I see all places outside downtown as villages. All my coworkers live in villages.
Full disclosure, most of the people in my support system are from the village.
Well, man down, for now.
I injured my groin muscle while maxing out my dead lift. The worst feeling ever! Who the fuck knew you would use your groin muscle even for such unrelated things as coughing!
I mentioned my trainer Katie before (the best and most compassionate trainer ever). She has been a godsend, especially now that I’m injured. She has been studying rehab techniques and making me do them during our sessions. Plus her pep talk. The only reasons I am not going completely insane. Thank you Dr. Katie!
In other news, my half on March 11 (DC Rock n Roll) and 10 miler on April 2 (Cherry Blossom run) are iffy.
And I still don’t know what my big event for the year is! Faaack….

Cupid’s Undie Run is a charity event to raise money for children suffering from a debilitating genetic disorder called neurofibromatosis (NF). As it says on the undie itself “I take my pants off for charity”. And I (we) did! The run was a short half mile but the party was over 3 hours long! Injury schminjury. bahaha!
It’s been over a month since I ran my first race of the year. A half marathon on the beach at Huntington Beach, CA. Although the longest distance I ran until that point was just about 5 miles, I had a strong race. It was my 3rd fastest half! The weather was perfect, about 45° and sunny. I ran the first 5 miles without stopping at about 8:30 per mile! Whoa, right?
Then there was another half in Woodside, CA the next Saturday. I reach my friends’ place in Menlo Park on Friday evening, one thing (whiskey) led to another (whiskey), I decided not to run that race. Hey, there will be more races, but not much free-single-malt-scotch-excellent-food-good-company around.
Hydroplane. Thats what happened during my trip to SF from LA. Over 20 (TWENTY) times. With almost zero visibility. My rental was a 328 (the purpose behind that was strictly to show off before my friends) which all of a sudden became my life saver. I can go on and on but that one amazing machine. Here is Pepper (I had to name her)!
