I am a vegan athlete. Marathons, century bike races, RAGBRAI, Tough Mudder…. But more importantly, I am an animal rights activist. I will do anything to help make the lives of animals better among us, the uncompassionate humans.
Being vegan is not just about not eating animal products. It is about not contributing to animal suffering in any form, whether it is fashion (fur, leather, cashmere, wool, silk), entertainment (circus, movies, zoos) or pets (aquariums, birds / reptiles in cages, exotic animal pets), above all animals used in experimentation which has been proven to be not effective but still continues!
“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
It is one thing to not support, or contribute towards, suffering of animals. But it is a whole another thing to speak out for them. That’s what I do.
Genuine compassion has no limits. It does not discriminate between animals and humans. Or robots or aliens.
Why am I an animal activist in a world where there is so much human suffering?
Only us humans abuse animals, systematically, with absolute disregard to how they are also living, breathing, beings. And they only have us humans to speak for them. I can hear them scream and cry out for help all the time, but most humans can’t.
Compassion…. therefore I am….
